NEW ZEALAND DISASTERS
CAVE CREEK, NEAR PUNAKAIKI, WEST COAST, SOUTH ISLAND
28 APRIL 1995

On the 28 April 1995 a group of students from the Tai Poutini Polytechnic in Greymouth were on a field trip to Cave Creek, near Punakaiki on the West Coast of the South Island. As part of the group made their way on to the new viewing platform, it collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 13 students and one Department of Conservation field officer.
