HARVEY, KATRINA nee HANSEN (NURSE HARVEY)
Katrina Hansen was born about 1863 at St John's, Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of Peter Hansen, a sea captain, and Mary Hansen nee Lawrie.
She married John Harvey in Withington, Lancaster, England, and came to Hawera from Kent, England in 1910 on the recommendation of Dr McDiarmid, former Hawera medical practitioner. Katrina practised as a masseuse for a number of years in Union Street and later established a maternity home at 1 Victoria Street where it was her proud claim to have been in attendance at the birth of 1500 babies without one death.
Her daughter Ella (Isabella Mary Pennington) assisted until Katrina's death on the 4 October 1930 at Hawera aged 67 years. Nurse Harvey is buried at the Hawera cemetery.
