* On the 25 November 1918 a V.A.D [Voluntary Aid Detachment] died as a result of the influenza epidemic. She was recorded as Corale LUMLEY and is buried at the Featherston Cemetery. However it appears that her real name was Carrie LUMLEY and she was a nurse. In the 1911 census she is at Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire, occupation Hospital Nurse. She came to New Zealand on board the Arawa in 1913 with another nurse, Margaret Priest. Carrie's mother was Ellen Jane FRYER - Ellen's sister Kate Elizabeth FRYER married Alfred BAKER and lived in Napier. Newspaper reports att he time say "Advice has been received from the camp adjutant, Featherston military camp, that Miss Corale Lumley, V.A.D., died there from broncho-pneumonia on November 25th. Her next-of-kin is Mrs. Baker, Napier". Carrie was born in Retford, Nottinghamshire in 1892.
