On Thursday 12 May 1988, a Foxpine Air Charter Piper PA-34-200T Seneca Registration ZK-EQA, on a flight from Hamilton to Wanganui in turbulent weather, crashed in the Ahu Ahu Valley at around 5.25pm. All on board, six adults and three children were killed.
