WAR MEMORIAL AT NGAIO
A war memorial was dedicated last Sunday evening in All Saints' Parish Hall, Ngaio. It is a lectern of carved oak, and has been designed for the church which the people hope to build ere long. The memorial has been provided by parishioners to keep in memory Sergt. Julian V. RADCLIFFE, of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, at one time churchwarden at All Saints, who fell in action in France on 25th May, 1916. The lectern consists of a substantial octagonal column resting oh a crossshaped base. In its lower half the column is surrounded by eight small detached shafts. Above these is a carved cap serving as a, base from which the upper part of the column rises, tapering, with octagonal fluted sides, to the capital of carved foliage at the top. The whole is crowned with a revolving desk, which, on one side, bears the memorial inscription. The general effect is of great beauty and dignity. The workmanship is very fine, and does much credit to the craftsmen who produced it, Messrs. Robinson and Swanson, of Invercargill. The designer is Mr. E. R. Wilson, architect, of Invercargill. The lectern is well worth a visit from those interested in church furnishings.
