NO 2 ROAD HALL, TE PUKE
CHARTER SIGNATORIES - c1883.
The No 2 Road Hall is still standing. In early 2004 a group was formed to look into restoring the hall as an example of an early settlers meeting place.
The charter reads:
It is proposed to invite the Christian Community located at the settlement known as Te Puke near Tauranga to contribute for the erection of a building which may be available for all purposes calculated to promote the Religious, Intellectual and Social advancement of all classes inhabiting the district.
In the matter of Religious Worship on the Lord’s Day it is hoped that Christian harmony and mutual conciliation may be maintained with a view to promoting the greatest possible amount of good, spiritual and temporal, for all who can be persuaded to avail themselves of the opportunities afforded.
Only such Worship and ordinances as are consistent with Evangelical Protestant principles to be allowed.
All social gatherings during week days shall be in harmony with religious principles whether Lectures, Discussions or Readings.
Dancing and Amateur Theatricals to be rigidly prohibited, and all repasts to be conducted on strictly abstinence principles.
We who here annex our names and sign manually with amount guaranteed agree to uphold and submit to the above conditions.
