CHRISTCHURCH, April 27
The schooner Ronga, supposed to be the derelict which the tug Duco tried unsuccessfully to tow into Wellington; was one of the swiftest and handsomest of several smart schooners engaged in coastal timber trade. She was of New Zealand build, having been launched from the yard of Messrs Lane and Brown, of Whangaroa, upwards of six years ago. The vessel was constructed especially for the timber trade between Lyttelton and Havelock. She carries a full crew, those on board when she left Lyttelton on Saturday being Edward PETERSEN (master) [also recorded as Captain Otto Edward Petersen in earlier reports], J. PETERSEN (mate), J. JOHNSON (A.B.), J. McPHERSON (A.B.), C OLSEN (A.B.), Charles FOREMAN (A.B. and cook). The crew were all single men, with, so far as known, no relatives here.

The Times states that special inquiries were made on Tuesday with regard to the identity of some of the crew of the missing schooner Ronga. J. Paterson, the mate who had been on the Ronga for a long while, was formerly on the schooner Morning Light. J. Johnson, A.B., was formerly on the barque Helen. C. Olsen, A.B., was previously on the coastal steamer Charles Edward.
