NEW ZEALAND DISASTERS AND TRAGEDIES
MISCELLANEOUS DROWNINGS
The following are New Zealand drownings that have been sent to me either by relatives or from cemetery etc records. If you have any names you would like to add please let me know. (The dates are extendable either way). Please also see the Miscellaneous Drowning Inquests page as there are many on there also.
The * denotes the date the body was found. Please note that there are many rivers in New Zealand with the same name (Wai means water in Maori). Province's are no longer used in New Zealand so access to a good gazetteer is recommended or the book "Wises NZ Index to Every Place in New Zealand" be consulted.
For the Canterbury drowings also see transcriptions from the Press and Star - Daily Newspapers - Christchurch - New Zealand - for random months from 1870 - 1930
